General Description of Work: Michael Groesbeck's photographs speak for themselves. Through his work, Michael conveys his innermost feelings to the public. As a person with a disability, his goal is to help people understand that he is no different than others.
A native Iowan, Michael captures the beauty of both the natural and technological worlds in which he grew-up. Whether cityscapes, muscle cars or a lone prairie flower, Michael's subjects are photographed within a stable composition. He has a flair for photographic ideas both in and out of the studio and has been a Professional freelance/commercial photographer for more than fourteen years.
In 1996, Michael was selected as Very Special Arts of Iowa "Artist of the Year" and had a photo selected for the Very Special Arts of Iowa Sesquicentennial Award, "Rivers View". He has also displayed photos at the Iowa State Fair Photo Salon in 1997 and 1999. His work was also selected for the Des Moines Art Center's Faces of Iowa exhibition in 2000. He has worked for the Des Moines Water Works Water Festival, Grand View College (Photo Gallery Manager Communications Building 1997-1999 and Studenterfest 1996-1999), American Cancer Society of North Iowa (Committee Member), Mercy Medical Hospital of North Iowa Breast and Cervical Cancer Department (Walk, Run and Wag 2004-2008). Michael's photos were recently choosen as part of the Medicare/Medicaid calendars for 2009 and 2010.
Bio: Michael received a liberal arts degree from Des Moines Area Community College in 1993 and a B.A. in Radio/TV and Photography through the Creative and Performing Arts curriculum from Grand View College in 1999. He just recieved an AIS-Business as a Computer Technician,Desktop Suport in windows and certificates in Small Office/Home Office Cisco Networking,Data Security, Computer ferensics 2009.
He has taught adult education photography classes at North Iowa Area Community College and presently owns Portraits of Iowa, his Freelance/Commercial photography.
Services Offered 1: Photography (commissions) - Michael will work with clients to photograph subjects of all kinds—from buildings and custom vehicles to nature. Contact the artist for fees.
Services Offered 2: Workshops (education) - Michael's workshops cover the basics of photography; film, digital, cameras and lenses, types of photography, subjects and subject locations, how to upload your photos from your digital camera to your computer and how to manipulate them for use in emails and basic web design. The workshops are designed for beginner and intermediate students who want practical and quick results.
