General Description of Work: Patrick Hazell is a unique artist in the Midwest music circuit. With firm roots in blues and jazz traditions, Patrick has been performing original compositions, improvisation and standards professionally since 1961. The Des Moines Register has called Patrick "a legend in Iowa music." As a soloist, he adapts his performance to all types of venues ranging from large halls with up-tempo dance music to the intimate atmosphere of small rooms. He is equally comfortable playing in nontraditional performance spaces to audiences of all ages and backgrounds. Simultaneously accompanying his vocals with piano, percussion, and harmonica, Patrick gets the sound of a three-piece band while achieving a "free-flow" in which he and the audience reach a musical union.
