General Description of Work: From the soulful music of Satie to the thought provoking and beautiful works of late twentieth century composers such as Roberto Sierra and Radames Gnattali to the jazz inspired work of Antonio Carlos Jobim, the Torres-Stuhr Guitar and Flute Duo specializes in the music of the French and Latin American Composers. With a highly nuanced and expressive performing style, the Torres-Stuhr Duo offers an exceptional concert experience.
Bio: Jorge Torres, guitarist and musicologist, has taught at Grinnell College where he founded the Latin American Ensemble, and currently teaches music history at Lafayette College in Easton Pennsylvania. His areas of specialization include 17th Century French lute performance practice as well as 20th century music of Latin America. Rebecca Stuhr, flutist, is a librarian at Grinnell College. She has been performing in Iowa, both baroque and modern flute, since 1989. Torres and Stuhr have performed together in Iowa and on the east coast. They recently toured with an all Latin American program in Latino communities in central and eastern Iowa. They have contracted with Centaur Records to release a recording of music by Latin American and French composers.

Services Offered 1: Performance - the program is classical with regional influences prominent in some works. It includes classical works by Cordero, Gnattali, and Piazzoli, as well as Argentinean and Haitian songs of Gustavino and Casseus. The French program includes song sets by Satie, Saugnet, Poulenc and Bozza.
Services Offered 2: Lecture/Recital - Torres-Stuhr Flute and Guitar Duo present a recital with a discussion of chamber ensemble rehearsal technique, repertoire selection specifically for ensembles that include guitar, and discussion of Latin American musical traditions and influences.
Services Offered 3: Lecture - Torres-Stuhr duo will combine performances with artists class sessions for small chamber ensembles.
