General Description of Work: Adventures in Social Drama is a non-profit organization designed to utilize drama as a tool for problem-solving solutions via role-play scenarios.
Bio: Annie Mielke is currently a student at Drake University pursuing her degree in Elementary Education/Special Education. She has two children on the autism spectrum who inspired her to design theatre programs to assist individuals with social skills deficits. She teaches her own curriculum at The Des Moines Playhouse. Joe Parrish is also a theatre instructor at The Des Moines Playhouse and owns Parrish Productions. He assists Annie in designing the curriculum and is the primary facilitator.

Residency Description: Our desire is to share the unique world of learning created in a social drama workshop. Our aim is to provide students with creative outlets for self-expression where they can explore feelings, develop creativity, and hone artistic skills. Social drama workshops are a great way to improve self-confidence, self-awareness, and self-esteem. The use of social drama improves communication skills, encourages self-discipline, and enhances social awareness.
